Two Pharma Giants, One Deal? 💊
A pair of global pharmaceutical giants are reportedly discussing plans to merge into a combined company valued at about $400 billion.
Details: The Financial Times reported on Sunday that AstraZeneca $AZN ( ▼ 0.99% ) and Bristol-Myers Squibb $BMY ( ▲ 0.69% ) held preliminary early-stage discussions about a possible merger in recent months. The talks may not lead to any agreement, and both companies have not commented on the report.
Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: While the merger talks seem to be real, the odds of a deal closing soon are tempered by size, regulatory, and strategic hurdles. A merger would almost certainly face intense global regulatory review.
Final Thoughts: Shares of Bristol-Myers Squibb are up 22.17% this year while AstraZeneca’s stock is down 7.14%.
