Meet Walmart's "Scenario" π
Connecting with the next generation of shoppers is a must in retail, and thatβs exactly what Walmart $WMT ( β² 0.1% ) is reportedly preparing to do this week with a new launch.
Details: The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that Walmart will introduce a new line of womenβs clothing, bags, and other accessories called Scenario this week. Most items will reportedly cost less than $25.
The report speculated that Walmart is launching the brand as part of a push to appeal to young and trendier shoppers.
Background: Walmart recently reported a significant slowdown in sales growth, posting a 2.6% rise in U.S. comparable store sales, its weakest quarterly increase in over six years. The company must change direction and make inroads with younger shoppers.
Early Birdβs Nest Egg Gains: Walmartβs issue with young, trend-oriented shoppers is less about price than about fashion credibility.Β
It has historically won the βbasic, low-priceβ purchase, but younger consumers with discretionary income often go elsewhere for items that feel current, distinctive, and higher-quality.
Final Thoughts: Recovery is the name of the game for Walmart. The stock is down 8.03% this year, with most of the decline occurring in the past week since its weak earnings report.
