A Treasury Move Sparked This π
The price of the cryptocurrency Ethereum $ETH ( βΌ 0.19% ) declined about 1% on Sunday, closing out a recent late August winning streak. The price is up 26% since August 19.
Powering the Story: On August 19, the U.S. Treasury said it would at least double the maximum size of its long-dated Treasury-bond buyback operations from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation. Markets interpreted that as supportive of Treasury-market liquidity: long-end yields fell, the dollar weakened, and investors moved back into high-beta risk assets, including Ethereum.
Additional Details: There were a few other catalysts behind the recent price increase.Β
President Trump recently pressed the U.S. Senate to pass the crypto-industry-friendly CLARITY ACT.Β
The SEC proposed a crypto-asset offering framework featuring registration exemptions.Β
U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs (exchange-traded funds) recorded nine consecutive net-inflow sessions totaling about $1.42 billion through Aug. 28.
Early Birdβs Nest Egg Gains: Ethereum can continue rising in September, and a move toward $2,800 is credible if ETF inflows and the liquidity narrative persist. But expecting a repeat of Augustβs 26% gain would mean assuming another powerful catalyst happens.
Final Thoughts: Despite the recent gains, Ethereumβs price is still down nearly 19% this year.
