Tesla's $30B War Chest 💰
As part of a renewed focus on strategic readiness and ambition, Tesla $TSLA ( ▼ 1.29% ) received three new credit lines for future spending on Tuesday. The stock ticked up 0.37% in after-hours trading.
Details: The three new credit lines total $30 billion and include:
A $20 billion term loan facility from Citibank $C ( ▼ 0.39% ). It is a lump-sum borrowing option that Tesla can draw from up to 10 times over the next 18 months.
An $8 billion 5-year revolving credit line from Wells Fargo Bank $WFC ( ▼ 0.41% ) that Tesla can borrow from and pay back as needed.
A $2 billion 364-day revolving credit line from Wells Fargo.
Also: Tesla can use the funds for standard business operations, but the company said in a filing on Tuesday that it does not currently plan to draw on the facilities in 2026. It did not specify what the new credit lines would be for.
Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: Tesla is preparing to shift from a company whose capital intensity was primarily automotive manufacturing to one funding several overlapping, long-dated bets: autonomous mobility, AI infrastructure, robotics, heavy trucking, energy, and possibly chips.
Final Thoughts: Tesla’s stock is down about 21% in 2026.
