Samsung's Chip Boom, Job Bust

Even as Samsung $SSNLF ( ▲ 116.8% ) surges thanks to its skyrocketing semiconductor business, other units in the organization appear to be struggling in 2026.

Details: On Sunday, Reuters reported that Samsung will cut over 700 consumer electronics operations jobs that were performed in New Jersey. The business group known as Samsung Electronics America is preparing to move its headquarters to Texas.

Background: Unlike Samsung’s chip business, the consumer electronics unit has been floundering in recent years, forcing the company to make changes.

Big Picture: Competition and changing consumer preferences have been challenging for the electronics unit. The division faces squeezed profit margins and declining sales in key regions.

Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: Samsung’s current setup of chip sales booming while consumer electronics lagging is more a shift in earnings mix than an immediate red flag, but it raises medium‑term risk around cyclicality, capital allocation, and valuation concentration that investors should watch closely.

  • The chip division’s current profitability and the AI memory super‑cycle are strong enough that Samsung does not look structurally broken.

  • However, investors should be wary of the combination of extreme profit concentration in a notoriously cyclical business and structurally weak consumer units that don’t provide genuine diversification.

Final Thoughts: Samsung’s stock is up 91.05% this year. Going back 12 months, the stock is up over 260%.

The Team Behind The Walking Dead and Invincible Are at It Again

In 2003, Robert Kirkman launched both The Walking Dead and Invincible comic books. But something happened that would set these titles apart for decades to come.

Kirkman partnered with Skybound CEO David Alpert “DA” to build them into franchises. Almost 2 decades later, The Walking Dead is among the most-watched cable shows of all time, generating $10B+ in revenue and market cap gains.

Invincible has debuted at #1 on Prime Video for multiple seasons. It’s one of the longest-running streaming animated series.

Now, the Invincible VS video game has been released. It’s Skybound’s foray into the $300B gaming industry.

But they have 250+ more IPs in their portfolio, which means many more stories to tell.
