Mission Produce’s Fresh Deal 🥑
Calavo Growers $CVGW ( ▲ 1.09% ) surged 12.93% in after-hours trading on Wednesday after the provider of avocados and tomatoes got acquired by a rival.
Details: Mission Produce $AVO ( ▲ 0.64% ) is buying Calavo for $27 per share, valuing the company at $430 million. The stock was trading at $22.58 on Wednesday. Meanwhile, shares of Mission Produce fell 6.22% in after-hours trading.
Powering the Story: The deal will bolster Mission’s avocado and fresh produce business in North America.
Quote: “With this acquisition, we strive to expand our premium avocado position in North America and create a leading global fresh produce platform, which we believe will be well-positioned to capture the increasing demand for fresh, healthy, and convenient foods.” - President and COO John Pawlowski.
Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: Mission Produce’s agreement to buy Calavo appears strategically attractive in the long term, but the payoff will depend heavily on execution and the price Mission ultimately pays relative to achievable synergies.
For Mission shareholders, it is more of a medium‑risk, medium‑reward consolidation bet.
Final Thoughts: It hasn’t been a kind year for both stocks, with Mission Produce up just 3% in the past 12 months and Calavo Growers in the red.
