A rumored decision by technology giant Microsoft $MSFT ( ▼ 1.93% ) could potentially upend an IPO and reveal some cracks in the artificial intelligence buildout.

Details: The Telegraph reported on Sunday that Microsoft has pulled out of a planned data center in the U.K. with British company Nscale. The report did not say why Microsoft ended the agreement, but it said the setback could jeopardize Nscale’s ambitions to go public in the future.

Background: British AI cloud and data-center provider Nscale filed paperwork in September to go public on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol NSCL.

Bigger Picture: It’s been a tough time for the AI infrastructure buildout. While the initial phase of the AI boom was driven by a frantic rush to acquire chips, the reality of scaling physical infrastructure has collided with a wall of analog bottlenecks, capital fatigue, and regulatory friction.

Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: This is primarily a project-execution problem. It is a much bigger setback for Nscale than for Microsoft. There is no evidence that Microsoft’s AI demand is weakening based on this report.
