McDonald's E. Coli Outbreak 🍔

McDonald’s (NYSE: MCD) fell by 5.80% in after-hours trading on Tuesday after the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) reported an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald’s hamburgers.

Details: 49 people across 10 states have been sickened due to Quarter Pounder hamburgers from McDonald’s, which has so far resulted in 10 hospitalizations and one death, according to the CDC.

  • In a statement, McDonald’s said its initial findings indicate that a subset of illnesses may be linked to slivered onions used in the burgers, and out of an abundance of caution, the company is temporarily removing the Quarter Pounder from restaurants across multiple states.

Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: Recovering from a major food safety incident like an E. coli outbreak can be a lengthy and challenging process for large restaurant businesses. The timeline for recovery can vary significantly depending on the severity and the scope of the outbreak.

Final Thoughts: This stock decline wiped out McDonald’s gain for the year.
