KB Home's Deepening Slump 🏠
KB Home $KBH ( ▲ 1.53% ) fell 1.83% in after-hours trading on Tuesday after the homebuilder posted mixed financial results and explicitly admitted to something.
Financials: KB Home reported earnings of $1.05 per share in the past quarter, which were better than expected. But revenue was $1.3 billion, which was in-line.
Details: How bad was the quarter? Revenue decreased 20%. Homes delivered fell 19%. The average selling price slipped compared with the same period last year.
Quote: “We are operating in a housing market that continues to be challenging, with conditions weakening since our June earnings report. Higher mortgage interest rates have further pressured affordability and, together with geopolitical uncertainty and broader economic headwinds, have caused many prospective buyers to be more cautious on purchasing a home.” - Jeffrey Mezger, Executive Chairman.
Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: KB Home’s caution is most likely to persist through at least the next several quarters unless mortgage rates decline meaningfully, consumer confidence improves, or builders make affordability work through lower prices and larger incentives.
For investors, the more relevant question is not whether buyer caution lasts one quarter, but whether KBH can protect orders and gross margin while it lasts.
Final Thoughts: The bad year for KB Home’s stock continues. It was already down 14.86% in 2026. Most homebuilder stocks are down this year.
