GameStop Eyes Bitcoin Investment

The news that GameStop (NYSE: GME) is reportedly investing in cryptocurrency caused its stock to jump 7.46% in after-hours trading on Thursday.

Details: A report from CNBC on Thursday said the video game retailer is exploring investments in alternative asset classes, including crypto and Bitcoin. The company is still determining whether this makes sense for the business and may decide not to pursue the investments.

  • GameStop did not comment on the report.

Stock Price: GameStop's stock price has increased 85% in the last 12 months, although it has fallen so far in 2025.

Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: GameStop's potential investment in Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies could make sense for several strategic reasons.

  • GameStop has $4.6 billion in cash reserves and investing in Bitcoin could diversify its holdings.

  • Cryptocurrencies could integrate with GameStop's core business model, such as enabling crypto payments for games or exploring blockchain-based gaming.

Final Thoughts: The company will likely report its next earnings in March.
