Dogecoin's Borrowed Rally π
The so-called meme coin Dogecoin $DOGE ( β² 0.51% ) had its best-performing month of the year in August, but a closer look reveals that the gains aren't really Dogecoin's own.
Background: Dogecoin was up over 19% in August, with most of the gain occurring after August 19th when the entire crypto market rebounded. The price jumped 1% on Monday.
Details: Dogecoinβs August rise was part of the broader crypto market shifting into a relief/risk-on rebound.
Powering the Story: However, most major cryptos continued to rise at the end of August, leaving Dogecoin in the dust. It lagged major assets because investors directed the new capital toward tokens with clearer institutional, regulatory, or network-specific catalysts.
Bigger Picture: As a legacy meme coin, Dogecoinβs value proposition remains its broad recognition. It lacks an expanding smart-contract ecosystem, staking yield, protocol fee capture, or institutional product story. That makes it especially dependent on retail investor enthusiasm and momentum.
Early Birdβs Nest Egg Gains: Dogecoin can perform well as a small, speculative satellite position during a meme coin phase. It is less compelling as a core long-term holding if your thesis depends on durable adoption, cash-flow-like token economics, or consistent relative performance.
Final Thoughts: Even with the August rally, Dogecoin is still down about 29% in 2026.
PRESENTED BY MOUNT RIDLEY MINES
The World's Largest Publicly Reported Scandium Resource?
Mount Ridley Mines Ltd. (ASX: MRD) just updated its scandium resource and says it now hosts the world's largest publicly reported scandium resource.
That resource is roughly twice the size of Sunrise's Syerston project. And the comparison is getting attention because Sunrise has a market value around A$2.8 billion, while Mount Ridley is worth roughly A$38 million.
π Why does scandium matter? In August 2026, the U.S. Department of War committed a conditional US$400 million loan to Sunrise's Syerston scandium project, highlighting growing concern around global scandium supply.
π¨π³ China currently dominates supplies of heavy rare earths, scandium, and gallium and has placed export restrictions on all three. Mount Ridley has exposure to all three critical minerals within one project in Western Australia.
βοΈ The company is also developing its own Selectro processing technology. In testing, Mount Ridley says Selectro recovered roughly twice as much metal as standard acid leaching, and the company recently filed a patent application.
π With the world's largest publicly reported scandium resource and a broader portfolio of critical minerals, Mount Ridley is a name to research as Western governments look for alternative sources of strategic materials.
