Cracker Barrel's "Unique" Mess

Following its disastrous rebrand, restaurant chain Cracker Barrel Old Country Store $CBRL ( ▲ 3.52% ) posted disappointing financial results on Tuesday, sending the stock down 7.96% in after-hours trading.

Financials: Cracker Barrel reported a loss of 74 cents per share in the past quarter and revenue of $797.2 million. Both were lower than expected.

Quote: “First quarter results were below our expectations amid unique and ongoing headwinds. We have adjusted our operational initiatives, menu, and marketing…” - CEO Julie Masino.

Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: The company is facing brand and PR issues around its attempted remodel and logo change, and then the subsequent walk-back, which created backlash and confusion instead of the hoped-for refresh.

  • There are also current challenges in the restaurant industry, such as weak traffic and shifting consumer behavior, as well as broader cost and margin pressures in casual dining.

Final Thoughts: The bad year continues for Cracker Barrel. The stock has already lost half its value in 2025.
