Chipotle's Consumer "Slowdown"
Chipotle Mexican Grill $CMG ( ▲ 0.14% ) fell 2.05% in after-hours trading on Wednesday after reporting mixed financial earnings results.
Financials: Chipotle reported earnings of 29 cents per share in the past quarter, which was better than expected. But revenue was only $2.9 billion, which was lower than expected.
Powering the Story: Same-store sales decreased in the past quarter as CEO Scott Boatwright blamed “a slowdown in consumer spending.”
Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: Economic uncertainty, recession fears, persistent inflation, and higher living costs drove the slowdown in consumer spending, reflected in Chipotle’s first same-store sales decline since the pandemic.
Final Thoughts: These results come as the stock has fallen 18% this year.
