Blink Charging's "Uncertain" Truth
Blink Charging $BLNK ( ▲ 3.15% ) , which makes electric vehicle charging equipment and provides services, fell 7.59% in after-hours trading on Monday after posting bad financial results.
Financials: Blink Charging reported a loss of 18 cents per share and revenue of $20.8 million in the past quarter. Both were lower than expected.
Powering the Story: Although services revenue jumped 29%, the product sales revenue plunged nearly 70% in the period.
Quote: “...first quarter revenue fell short of expectations primarily due to the uncertain economic climate impacting customers’ discretionary spending decisions.” - CEO Mike Battaglia.
Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: Blink Charging is facing significant challenges. High interest rates and inflation have led consumers to prioritize essential expenses over discretionary ones, such as EV purchases and related infrastructure.
The pause of the $5 billion National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program and potential rollbacks of EV-related tax credits under the current administration have created uncertainty in the EV market.
Final Thoughts: The bad times continue for Blink Charging. The stock was down 42% this year.
