Bitcoin Jumps Before ‘Uptober’

Bitcoin $BTC.X ( ▲ 3.45% ) is trying to finish September on a positive note as the price of the most popular cryptocurrency jumped about 2% on Monday.

Price Details: Bitcoin is up about 5% in September. It may not sound like a big gain, but keep in mind that Bitcoin’s price fell about 5% in August. Thus, September was a recovery month.

Powering the Story: There’s enthusiasm surrounding Bitcoin right now, before October starts. October is often called “Uptober” because historically, Bitcoin and other cryptos have received nice gains during the month.

Vail Resorts Can't "Capitalize"

Vail Resorts $MTN ( ▲ 0.22% ) fell 1.86% in after-hours trading on Monday after the mountain resort company posted disappointing financial results.

Financials: Vail Resorts reported a loss of $5.08 per share and revenue of $271 million in the past quarter. Both were lower than expected.

Details: Pass product sales are down 3% and total skier visits dropped 3% across North American destination mountain resorts and regional ski areas.

Quote: “Our approach to engaging with guests has not kept pace with shifting consumer behaviors and as a result, we have not been able to fully capitalize on our competitive advantages or adapted our execution appropriately to respond to shifting dynamics.” - CEO Rob Katz.

Final Thoughts: Vail Resorts is already down 15% this year.

EchoStar Jumps Amid Report

EchoStar $SATS ( ▲ 0.27% ) jumped 8.49% in after-hours trading on Monday after a report about the telecommunications company was published.

Details: Bloomberg reported on Monday that Verizon Communications $VZ ( ▼ 0.83% ) is talking to EchoStar about buying some of its wireless spectrum.

Final Thoughts: The stock was already up 223% (wow!) this year.
