BofA’s $1.2B Treasury Fine 🏦
Bank of America $BAC ( ▼ 1.14% ) fell 2.29% in after-hours trading on Tuesday after the U.S. Department of the Treasury hit the country’s second-largest bank with a historic $1.21 billion fine.
Details: The Treasury Department alleges that Bank of America violated anti-money laundering and sanctions laws. The fine included the third-largest penalty in Treasury history and the largest in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) history.
Most of the penalty was a $1.2 billion fine alleging that the bank failed to mitigate and report priority national security risks, including Chinese money laundering networks.
Quote: “When a bank of this size fails to meet its anti-money laundering and sanctions obligations, the consequences extend far beyond its own walls, exposing the entire U.S. financial system to significant illicit finance risks.” - Secretary Scott Bessent.
Background: Bank of America’s stock is down over 3% this year due in part to lower-than-expected investment banking projections.
Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: The $1.21 billion penalty will clearly dent Q3 earnings and intensify regulatory scrutiny, but it is not an existential financial blow or an asset-cap-style constraint on the bank’s growth. But for its risk profile and valuation narrative, it is a bigger setback.
Final Thoughts: Bank of America will report its next financial earnings today.
Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads
Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Here’s how:
After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.
The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.
“For CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,” said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. “Comping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROAS… and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.”
Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.
