Alcoa Loses Some Shine 🥫
Alumina and aluminum leader Alcoa $AA ( ▲ 0.85% ) posted mixed financial results on Thursday. The stock still jumped 1.43% in after-hours trading.
Financials: Alcoa reported earnings of $1.82 per share in the past quarter, which were better than expected. Revenue, however, was just $3.7 billion, below expectations.
Details: Alumina production rose 11%, while aluminum production grew 2%.
Powering the Story: Revenue fell 7% year-over-year. The aluminum business saw its revenue drop 9% due to lower shipments and lower average realized prices.
Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: The decline was largely a timing/normalization issue, not a sign of weaker underlying demand or production.
The 9% revenue decline reflects both a lower price per ton and a smaller volume base versus an inflated Q2.
The price decline was the larger earnings headwind. Alcoa estimated it reduced adjusted EBITDA by about $235 million sequentially.
Final Thoughts: Alcoa can’t really catch a big break. The stock was down over 28% this year.

Details: Revenue surged 20% in the quarter, including in the company’s largest business segment, intermodal. Revenue for the integrated capacity solutions business skyrocketed 57%.
