Opendoor's New CEO Boosts Stock
The online real estate company Opendoor Technologies $OPEN ( ▼ 4.09% ) surged 39.59% in after-hours trading on Wednesday after a leadership shake-up.
Details: Opendoor appointed Kaz Nejatian, currently the chief operating officer of Shopify $SHOP ( ▼ 0.86% ) , as its new chief executive officer on Wednesday. The company praised Nejatian as an artificial intelligence-native executive.
Quote: “He is a decisive leader who has driven product innovation at scale, ruthlessly reduced G&A expenses to drive profitability and deeply understands the potential for AI to radically reshape a company’s entire operations.” - Keith Rabois, Chairman.
Background: Carrie Wheeler stepped down from the CEO role in August amid pressure from investors who were not happy about the direction of the company.
Stock Price: Despite company problems, Opendoor is up 268% (wow!) this year, becoming a trending “meme stock” over the summer for retail investors.
Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: Opendoor retains its meme stock status today due to its heavy retail-driven volatility, social media-fueled rallies, and ongoing speculative trading, even as it simultaneously shows some improving fundamentals.
Final Thoughts: Let’s hope the new CEO can help the company.
