Meta’s Secret Censorship Plan 🕵️♂️
It turns out that Meta Platforms $META ( ▲ 4.4% ) was reportedly willing to go to extreme lengths to get Facebook in China.
Details: The Washington Post reported on Sunday that Meta considered developing a censorship system in a failed attempt to bring Facebook to millions of internet users in China. Meta did not respond to the report.
Background: Facebook is not accessible in mainland China as the Chinese government blocks the platform.
Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: If the Chinese government unblocks Facebook in China, it would have significant implications for Meta.
With China's population of over 1.4 billion, Meta would gain access to an enormous potential user base.
Direct access to Chinese users would likely lead to a dramatic increase in advertising revenue.
Final Thoughts: Meta, up 4% this year, is doing fine while Facebook remains blocked in China.
