Knight-Swift's "Seasonal Lift"
Disappointing financial earnings results for the motor carrier Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings $KNX ( ▼ 2.36% ) sent the stock down 3.85% in after-hours trading on Wednesday.
Financials: Knight-Swift reported earnings of 31 cents per share in the past quarter and revenue of $1.86 billion. Both were lower than expected.
Outlook: The company’s earnings outlook for the current quarter of 28 cents to 32 cents per share was also disappointing.
Quote: “The lack of the typical broad-based seasonal lift in demand until late in the quarter led to lower truckload volumes than expected.” - CEO Adam Miller.
Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: Knight-Swift’s normal holiday‑season freight bump never really showed up, so they moved fewer loads than they had planned.
Lower‑than‑expected truckload volumes generally mean less revenue in that segment and weaker operating leverage.
Final Thoughts: Despite the weak results, the company expects capacity in the near-term to continue to recede, resulting in a healthier market for carriers.
