KB Home's "Muted" Sales Demand
Disappointing financial earnings results for the homebuilder KB Home $KBH ( ▲ 1.47% ) caused the stock to drop 7.20% in after-hours trading on Monday.
Financials: KB Home reported earnings of $1.49 per share and revenue of $1.39 billion in the last quarter; both were lower than expected.
Details: Homes delivered fell 9% in the last quarter. The company’s housing gross profit margin also decreased.
Quote: “Consumers are working through affordability concerns and uncertainties related to macroeconomic and geopolitical issues, which are causing them to move slowly in their homebuying decisions. Demand at the start of this Spring’s selling season was more muted than what we have seen historically.” - Jeffrey Mezger, Chairman and CEO.
Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: KB Home’s sluggish demand can be attributed to geopolitical issues, pricing sensitivity, and higher-than-normal interest rates.
Affordability is causing consumers to hesitate when buying a home.
Final Thoughts: The stock was down 4% this year before these disappointing results.
