Petco Loses and Still Wins 🐶

The Petco Health and Wellness Company $WOOF ( ▼ 2.32% ) posted awful financial results on Wednesday, yet the stock jumped 9.84% in after-hours trading.

Financials: Petco reported a loss of 5 cents per share and revenue of $1.55 billion in the past quarter; both were lower than expected.

Powering the Story: The company also announced plans to close 20 to 30 stores in 2025, which delighted investors.

Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: Closing 20 to 30 underperforming stores in 2025 is considered a positive move for Petco. It can improve profitability, help Petco allocate resources better, and allow Petco to focus on high-performing locations.

Final Thoughts: With the stock down 40% this year, the company wants to cut costs.

Bitcoin’s Rough 2025, Explained

The price of Bitcoin $BTC.X ( ▼ 0.19% ) is down in 2025. It is down 14% since Donald Trump started his new term as president.

Unfulfilled Promises: Trump's administration has been slower than anticipated in implementing pro-crypto policies, leading to disappointment among investors. The lack of tangible measures, such as the proposed Bitcoin Strategic Reserve, has dampened enthusiasm in the crypto sector.

Global Trade Tensions: New tariffs have sparked fears of a global trade war, causing investors to seek less risky assets.

Final Thoughts: Economic uncertainty is not good for Bitcoin.

GameStop’s Proposed Private Offering

GameStop $GME ( ▲ 2.2% ) fell 7.62% in after-hours trading on Wednesday after announcing a proposed private offering of $1.3 billion of convertible senior notes.

Details: Net proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes, including buying Bitcoin.

Final Thoughts: This stock decline comes after the stock jumped in after-hours trading on Tuesday.
