Oracle's "Chip Neutrality" 🌐

Oracle $ORCL ( β–Ό 4.47% ) posted mixed financial earnings results on Wednesday, causing the technology giant to plummet 11.53% in after-hours trading.

Financials: Oracle reported earnings of $2.26 per share in the past quarter, which were better than expected. But the revenue of $16.1 billion was lower than expected.

Details: Earnings increased because Oracle closed the sale of Ampere, its chip company, in the past quarter. But software revenues fell 3%.

Quote: β€œWe are now committed to a policy of chip neutrality where we work closely with all our CPU and GPU suppliers. Of course, we will continue to buy the latest GPUs from NVIDIA, but we need to be prepared and able to deploy whatever chips our customers want to buy.” - Oracle Chairman and CTO, Larry Ellison.

Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: Oracle’s move to β€œchip neutrality” means it will stop backing a single in‑house or preferred chip platform and instead buy and deploy whatever CPUs/GPUs customers want.

  • This strategy gives Oracle customer flexiblity and supply diversification, but there’s an increase in margin and pricing pressures. Oracle’s competitiveness is now tied to other companies.

Final Thoughts: So much for Oracle’s momentum. The stock had been up 34% this year.
