Intel's Cost-Cutting Measures

Intel $INTC ( ▼ 3.66% ) fell by 4.64% in after-hours trading on Thursday after reporting mixed financial results and disclosing a cost-cutting update.

Financials: Intel reported a loss of 10 cents per share in the past quarter, which was lower than expected. It also reported revenue of $12.9 billion, which was better than expected.

Details: The loss in the quarter was due to restructuring charges. Revenue was flat year-over-year, indicating that the business didn’t experience significant growth.

Powering the Story: Intel said it was on track to hit a $17 billion operating expense target this year. It has also completed the majority of its planned 15% headcount reduction, which resulted in those restructuring charges.

Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: Despite the company's aggressive cost-cutting measures, investors remain concerned about its financial health.

  • Continued underperformance sends the message that the current cost-cutting measures are not aggressive enough.

  • The underlying operational challenges and lack of clear, profitable growth have left investors unconvinced—at least for now.

Final Thoughts: Intel’s stock has lost half its value in the last 5 years.
