FedEx's Freight Spin-Off Update
FedEx $FDX ( ▲ 0.32% ) jumped 5.48% in after-hours trading on Thursday after posting better-than-expected financial earnings results and providing an update on its upcoming spin-off.
Financials: FedEx reported earnings of $3.83 per share in the past quarter and revenue of $22.2 billion. Both were better than expected.
Also: The company anticipates revenue growing 4% to 6% over the next year. It also boosted its stock price by completing a $500 million stock buyback in the past quarter.
Powering the Story: On Thursday, FedEx also said it was on track to spin off its freight division by June 2026. The previously announced spin-off of FedEx Freight into a separate business will be done in a tax-efficient manner.
Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: Investors are excited about FedEx’s freight spin-off because it’s expected to unlock significant shareholder value.
FedEx Freight could be valued at $20–35 billion when spun off.
The spin-off creates the largest pure-play public North American LTL (less-than-truckload) carrier.
Final Thoughts: FedEx’s stock was down 17% this year. The company is trying to turn things around and keep its costs down.

Lennar's "Continued Pressures"
The home construction company Lennar $LEN ( ▼ 0.08% ) fell 3.20% in after-hours trading on Thursday after posting disappointing financial earnings results.
Financials: Lennar reported earnings of $2.00 per share in the past quarter and revenue of $8.8 billion. Both were lower than expected.
Powering the Story: The number of home sales decreased in the quarter, which the company says reflects “the continued pressures of today's housing market.” It also delivered 21,584 homes.
Quote: “Achieving these results required additional incentives, resulting in a reduced average sales price of $383,000, and our gross margin drifted down to 17.5%, while our SG&A expenses came in at 8.2%, reflecting the soft market conditions.” - Co-CEO Stuart Miller.
Final Thoughts: Lennar, facing an unfriendly housing market riddled with pressures, has managed to keep its stock positive in 2025 (although not by much).
