Disney's Box Office Blunder 🎥

Walt Disney’s $DIS ( ▼ 0.12% ) “Snow White” opened this past weekend and the box office returns aren’t promising.

Details: “Snow White” opened with the top spot in the box office with $43 million in ticket sales. This sounds good except Disney spent over $250 million to make the movie.

Background: This box office blunder comes as Disney experienced a mixed box office performance in 2024, with both successes and challenges. The company’s streaming business is taking off well, however.

Early Bird’s Nest Egg Gains: This performance from “Snow White” is likely to have a significant negative impact on Disney's financials.

  • With such a high production cost, the movie needs to perform exceptionally well to break even, let alone turn a profit.

  • The poor performance of "Snow White" could lead Disney to reevaluate its strategy for live-action remakes, potentially affecting future productions and revenue streams.

Final Thoughts: Disney’s stock is down 10.25% in 2025.

Kenvue's New Investor Pressure

The consumer health company Kenvue $KVUE ( ▲ 1.78% ) may have a new activist investor to contend with.

Details: Bloomberg reported on Sunday that the hedge fund TOMS Capital Investment Management has taken an undisclosed stake in Kenvue and is pushing for changes that include a full sale or separation. The company did not comment on the report.

Definition: A proxy fight typically involves an activist investor with a big stake in the company who pushes for strategic changes.

Background: Kenvue just settled a previous proxy fight with the investor Starboard Value.

Final Thoughts: Despite the investor pressure, Kenvue has had a good year. The stock is up over 12% in the last 12 months.

TRON Faces Market Correction

Following news of its potential new partnership this past week, the cryptocurrency TRON $TRX.X ( ▼ 0.22% ) gave up recent gains with a 5% decline on Sunday.

Details: The decline was likely due to profit-taking from investors and market volatility.

Final Thoughts: TRON is still up 6% in the last 7 days.
