The Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia reportedly wants to launch a new airline and buy jets from top manufacturers.

Details: Reuters reported on Sunday that the PIF is in advanced negotiations to buy almost 40 A350 jets from Airbus (OTCMKTS: EADSY) with a price of about $12 billion. The report also said that it wasn’t clear whether Boeing (NYSE: BA) was also participating in talks for the jet order.

What’s Next: A deal could be announced as early as this week. Neither Airbus nor Boeing have commented so far.

Final Thoughts: Boeing’s stock is down 32% this year. Airbus is down 23%. Increased travel demand in the next year could be good for both companies.
