Disney's Epic Investment

Walt Disney (NYSE: DIS) posted good financial results (and other interesting news) on Wednesday, causing shares to jump by 6.71% in after-hours trading.

Financials: Disney reported earnings of $1.22 per share in the past quarter, which was better than expected. Revenue reached $23.5 billion, which was lower than expected.

Details: The company’s cost reduction plans are on track, and now Disney expects earnings to grow by at least 20% this year. While its streaming business is still losing money, Disney anticipates profitability in that unit by the fourth quarter.

Powering the Story: Disney is spending its cash. In addition to a 50% increase in its dividend, Disney announced that is investing $1.5 billion in Epic Games.

Final Thoughts: Disney, down 11% in the past 12 months and facing pressure from activist investors, posted good results and created positive buzz. CEO Bob Iger strikes again!
