Apple Hits All-Time High Thanks to Save-The-Date Invitation

Shares of Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) popped 1.55% to an all-time high Tuesday after the tech giant announced via an email invitation it was hosting a special event on September 14.

Streaming: The title of Apple’s save-the-date email was “California Streaming,” which might reference that the event is virtual. However, it is possible that the company is using the event to promote new streaming content for Apple TV+.

Hardware: In addition, Apple could unveil new hardware at its upcoming event, including the new iPhone 13. Other gadgets such as the latest Apple Watch or new AirPods are rumored to be coming out in a few months.

Behind the Tech: The iPhone 13 is likely to sport an improved camera with sensor-shift optical image stabilization, according to MacRumors.

Stock Price: Apple’s stock is up 7.26% in the past month and 34.66% in the past six months.

Final Thoughts: Shares of Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) are up 16.68% in the past month. Thus, it makes sense for Apple to try to compete against Netflix with new streaming content.

El Salvador’s Problematic Bitcoin Rollout

Tuesday was the big day El Salvador officially adopted Bitcoin as legal tender. However, the price of the digital currency dropped over 12%.

What Happened: Public concerns on El Salvador’s Bitcoin rollout on social media alarmed some investors, which partially caused the price to plummet around 11:00 a.m. ET.

Outage: Cryptocurrency platform Coinbase (Nasdaq: COIN) suffered a technical outage Tuesday morning, which may have also played a role in the price decline.

Other Cryptos: In addition to Bitcoin, most of the other major cryptocurrencies also suffered price drops on Tuesday.

Final Thoughts: While some investors are concerned about the impact of El Salvador’s adoption, other investors see Tuesday’s price decline as a buying opportunity.

Investors Examine Gold ETFs and Mutual Funds

For investors interested in getting exposure to gold without owning the underlying asset, there are several mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to choose from.

The Good: Gold mutual funds and ETFs offer many advantages over buying the physical precious metal. This includes being tax-efficient and getting exposure to overall price advancements without having to secure physical assets.

The Bad: The funds are far from perfect. Each gold mutual fund or ETF has different performances and potentially hidden fees.

ETFs: Some examples of gold ETFs include SPDR Gold Shares (GLD), iShares Gold Trust (IAU), and SPDR Gold MiniShares Trust (GLDM).

Mutual Funds: Some examples of gold mutual funds include Fidelity Select Gold Portfolio Fund (FSAGX) and Gabelli Gold Fund (GLDAX).

Final Thoughts: For gold investors, the decision to select an ETF or mutual fund is based on a carefully selected unique financial strategy. No two investors are the same, which goes for ETFs and mutual funds as well.
